William E. Leutner of Hoyleton departed this life on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. He had attained the age of 84 years and 345 days, just a few weeks shy of his 85th birthday. He was born on August 7th, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Illinois at a young age. He passed away after a battle with dementia on July 17th, 2024.
Bill was the loving husband of Mary Ann (nee Michael); and beloved father of LeAnn Leutner and Susan (Jim) Sylvester. He was brother to Audrey Stern of Holland, MI and also the cherished Grandfather to Brennan, Caidyn, Ashlyn and Lincoln. He also leaves behind his Sister in laws: Sheila (Mike) Holsten and Nancy Michael, many nieces, nephews and an innumerable amount of friends as well. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Ada Leutner; his in-laws: Theodore and Olinda Michael; his daughter, LeAnn Leutner; Brother in laws: Roy Michael, Harlan Lange, Bob Michael and Wayne Michael; and Sister in laws: Wilma Lange and Joyce Michael.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Warren G. Murray Center after working there for 35 years and he ran a small lawnmower repair service in his free time. He was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton as well as a member of the Lion’s Club. He loved all things outdoors and spent his time fishing, fixing things that he purchased at auctions and collecting Indian Artifacts.
Bill’s personality brought warmth, joy and laughter to everyone he encountered, and his passing will be deeply mourned by everyone who knew and loved him. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were honored to have the privilege of knowing him. He prioritized spending time with his family and he never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Nashville American Legion Post #110. Friends may call from 9:30 until service time on Monday at the church. .Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and School. Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
