Wilfred H. Kasten, 99 of Hoyleton, passed away at 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle. He was born on January 29, 1923 in Hoyleton, the son of William and Emma Kleine Kasten, Jr. He married Ferris L. Creed on September 19, 1948 in Centralia and she passed away on July 21, 2022. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter Barbara Lynn Lake, 5 brothers; Gus (Florence), Walter (Viola), Raymond (Alma), Clarence (Frieda) and Erwin (Norma) Kasten. 2 sisters; Pauline (Raydeen) Tensmeyer and Laura (Eldor) Haake.
Left to mourn his passing is a son Steve (Marge) Kasten of Hoyleton and a daughter Jan (Dennis) Boldt of Valley Park, MO. 7 grandchildren; Dan Lake, Deanne (Ryan) Renken, Katie (Tad) Robinson, Matt (Carrie) Kasten, Ben (Francee) Kasten Ryan (Karen) Boldt and Adam (Lindsey Morin) Boldt. 16 great grandchildren, a son in law Terry Lake and several nieces and nephews.
“Wiffy” farmed in the Hoyleton area his entire life. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where he served in many capacities including Chairman of the school board, congregation and cemetery committee and served as an elder. He served on the committee which established the first ever Hofbraufest Festival in Hoyleton, he served on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Hoyleton Community Club.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church and one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church Hoyleton. Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of local arrangements
