Viola P. Reed 91 of Shiloh formerly of Centralia, passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born on December 25, 1922 in Richview, the daughter of Raymond A. and Margaret M. Zapp Pitchford. She first married Raymond “Jack” May on December 25, 1941 and they later divorced. She then married Carl A. Reed on March 5, 1966 in Nashville and he passed away on June 6, 2010. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother; Wesley Pitchford and a son in law; Malcolm Katt. Left to mourn her passing are 3 daughters; Ruth Ann (Wayne) Meinert of San Antonio, TX, Debbie (Paul) Cameron of Overland Park, KS and Margaret May of Belleville. A brother; Lester (Lorraine) Pitchford of Richview, 2 sisters; Marjorie (Lee) Marshall of St. Clairsville, OH and Marie (Walter) Finke of St. Louis. 3 grandchildren; Tracy Meinert of San Antonio, TX, Tammy (Larry) Rusznak of Torrance, CA and Andrew Cameron of St. John, USVI. 2 step grandchildren; Jared (Alison) Katt of Troy and Bryan Katt of St. Louis and her dog; Abbey.
Mrs. Reed was a graduate of Mc Kendree College in Lebanon. She taught school at Ashley Grade School, Plum Hill and Central City grade schools. After retiring from teaching, she worked in the administration office for the Centralia City School District. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville and St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, gardening and taking Sunday drives. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Belleville Memorial Hospital as well as the staff at the Fountains of Shiloh.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25th at the Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville with Rev. John Prather officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Nashville. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or SPCA. Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
