Sylvia Zapp (Kaufman) Ponyi

Sylvia June Zapp Ponyi, 92 of Nashville, passed away at 11:14 a.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.  She was born on June 19, 1931 in Elkton, the daughter of Carl and Katherine Zacheis Kaufman.  She first married Raymond Zapp on July 17, 1948 in Addieville and he passed away on August 8, 1988.  She then married Floyd Ponyi on October 5, 2001 in Wildwood, FL and he passed away on April 9, 2012.  Also preceding her in death were her parents, a granddaughter Amber Zapp and 2 brothers Wallace and Victor Kaufman.  Left to mourn her passing are 5 sons; Gary (Connie) Zapp and Randy (Rhonda) Zapp both of New Minden, Jeffrey (Carla) Zapp of Addieville, David (Debbie) Zapp of Liberty, TN and Corey (Bettina Cox) Zapp of Nashville. A daughter Vallie (Gary) Gould of Rochester. A sister Marcella (Wilbur) Willis Thomas of Nashville. 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Sylvia worked as a housekeeper for the Oelze family for over 30 years.  She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville where she taught Sunday School and a member of the Washington County Home Extension.  She loved to cook, quilt, garden and read.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville with Rev. Bill Groennert officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:30 until service time on Saturday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Society of America. Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
