Stephen Smith

Stephen Smith, 57 of Vandalia, formerly of New Minden, passed away suddenly at 9:12 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 in the emergency room at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.  He was born on July 7, 1963 in Centralia, the son of Jerry and Julia Stusman Smith.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Left to mourn his passing are 2 brothers; Jerry Smith, Jr. and Rick Smith both of Vandalia.   A sister Anna Smith of Mt. Vernon.  4 half brothers; Ervin Funke, Jr. of Naples, FL and Jim, Chuck and Bill Funke all of New Minden.  3 half sisters; Heather Smith of New Baden, Pam Funke of Mt. Vernon and Gail Funke of Naples, FL.

Steve was a 1981 graduate of Nashville Community High School.  He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia and loved railroads and trains.

Cremation will be performed and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John’s Lutheran church in New Minden with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating.  Memorial contributions are suggested.  Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
