Roy Fred Holtgrewe 97 of Addieville, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Friendship Manor Health Center in Nashville. He was born on October 5, 1917 in Stone Church, the son of Edward and Dehle Hoelscher Holtgrewe. He married Bonita Wilson on July 18, 1943 in Stone Church and she passed away on March 28, 1995. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a son; Charles, 3 brothers; Kermit, Kenneth and Richard and 2 sisters; Gladys Ostendorf and Celeste Lammers. Left to mourn his passing is a son; Douglas (Phyllis) Holtgrewe of Elmira, NY and a daughter in law; Pat Holtgrewe of Nashville. 2 brothers; Edgar Holtgrewe of Stone Church and Victor (Natalie) Holtgrewe of Rio Rancho, NM. A sister; Laverne Schirmer of Spring, TX. 6 grandchldren; Andrea Renken,Vanessa, Rachael, Samantha, Seth and Mitchell Holtgrewe. 5 great grandchildren; Peyton, Parker and Palmer Renken, Angelina and Isabella Holtgrewe.
Mr. Holtgrewe was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was the owner/operator of Holtgrewe Egg Company for 36 years. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville, the Addieville Community Club, Okawville American Legion Post#1947 where he served as treasurer for 10 years, the Okawville Lions Club, Nashville Lodge #55 AF&AM. Roy served 9 years on the Addieville school board and was a charter member of the Elkhorn Fishing and Sportsman’s club.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22nd in the Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville with Rev. William Groennert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Okawville American Legion Post. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion UCC church, Okawville American Legion Post or a charity of the donors choice.
