Roy Dinkelman Obituary

Roy Arthur Dinkelman, 74, of Nashville, IL, passed away on September 25, 2024, at his residence.  Roy was born on January 29, 1950, to Arthur and Lucille Dinkelman (Schrieber).  He was baptized into Christ and confirmed his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Nashville, IL.  He was a 1968 graduate of Nashville Community High School.

Roy received his Automotive Technician Certification from SIU – Carbondale.  He then proceeded to work for Weir Chevrolet in Redbud, IL, where he purchased his beloved 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlas, commonly referred to as the “football car” by his children due to the copper color and vinyl white top.  From there, he worked for Holzhauer’s in Nashville until he opened his own small business from home.  He started work as a mechanic at the Monterey Coal Company in Albers, IL until 1993.  He then took over the family farm which he managed until his passing with the help of his brother Marvin.  He enjoyed tinkering with farm equipment and cars and inventing and improvising solutions for tools and equipment with items on hand (MacGyvering).

Roy was well known at the local restaurants where everyone greeted him as Mr. Dinkelman and would acknowledge him in the same manner when he was seen around town.  Over the years, Roy became interested in wood working, and designed his own mailbox in the shape of a horse and gifted each great niece and nephew’s family a handmade rocking horse.

Preceded in joining the Lord is his Mother and Father, Arthur (1981) and Lucille (2020) Dinkelman and her husband, Elmer Woker (2015); Brother-In-Law Gene Povolish; and Cousin Gene Funke.

He is survived by his children: Sarah Dinkelman, Seth Dinkelman, and Shannon Dinkelman and partner Brian Morton; Siblings: Howard (Sue) Dinkelman, Marvin (Janet) Dinkelman, and Doris Povolish; and he is survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville with Rev. David Benning officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.
