Richard Fred Edward Huge, 87 of Hoyleton, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at his residence. He was born on July 17, 1933 in Hoyleton, the son of Edward and Emma Grote Huge. He was married to Joyce Kleiboeker on June 30, 1963 in Hoyleton by Pastor Willard Mueller. She passed away on October 2, 2016. Also preceding him in death were his parents. 4 brothers; Gilbert, Elmer, Alfred and Edward Huge. 2 sisters; Alma Kasten and Ella Wehking. Left to mourn his passing are 2 sons; Tracy (Gina) Huge of Dix and Travis Huge of Centralia. A daughter; Benita (Mark) Bacher of Hoyleton. 2 granddaughters; Haleigh J. Huge and fiance T.J. Phoenix of Irvington and Shania R. Huge of Hoyleton. 3 sisters; Corrine Rennegarbe of Okawville, Betty Weihe of Hoyleton and Esther Schaeffer of Odin.
Mr. Huge served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ashland from 1955 to 1957. He first worked with his brother Elmer at Jording and Huge repair service and then worked as a diesel mechanic for Centralia Cartage for 13 years. He farmed near Hoyleton most of his life. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where he previously served as an usher. He loved to play baseball and watch the St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, gardening and watching his purple martin birds.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Nashville American Legion Post #110. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m until service time on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project. Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
