Mildred A. Miessner 86 of New Minden, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Friendship Manor Health Center in Nashville. She was born on March 6, 1928 in Posey, the daughter of Edwin and Louise Michael Brink. She married Marvin W. Miessner on September 2, 1951 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ferrin and he survives her passing. Also left to mourn her passing is a son; Donald (Linda) Miessner of New Minden, 3 daughters; Karen (Carl) Benning of Shobonier, Marla (Dennis) Hempen of Carlyle and Lori Felts of Nashville. A brother; Elbert (Lois) Brink of Shattuc. 7 grandchildren; Matthew (Tina) Benning of St. Peter, Rebekah (Kyle) Norris of Highland, Lucas Benning of Shobonier, Kevin (Julia) Miessner of New Minden, Brady and Kaylee Hempen of Carlyle and Meghan Felts of Nashville. 5 great grandchildren; Hannah and Maggie Norris, Marcus, Ella and Kaly Benning. A sister in law; Ruth Brink of Glenn Ridge. She was preceded in death by an infant son; David and 2 brothers; Leroy (Eileen) Brink and Melvin Brink.
Mildred was a farm wife and formerly worked for Moran Shoe Co. in Carlyle. She was a charter member of the New Minden Community Club. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the Brail Center. Mildred was also a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Minden. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Restoration Fund or to Heartland Hospice.
