Michael S. Styninger 72 of Okawville, formerly of Nashville and Lerna, passed away at 3:57 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Washington County Hospital in Nashville. He was born on January 25, 1942 in Canton, Illinois, the son of John and Jane Folkman Styninger. He first married Sandra K. Vandelli on September 5, 1962 in Princeton, Illinois and she passed away on September 3, 2008. He then married Doris Luebke on December 10, 2011 in Okawville and she survives. Also left to mourn his passing is his father of Canton, a son; Mark S. (Becky) Styninger of Nashville, and a daughter; Karla K. Coffey of Mattoon. 6 grandchildren; Brock, Bryce and Bridget Styninger of Nashville, Macy and Olivia Coffey of Ashmore and Noah Hupp of Mattoon. A brother; Steve (Vicky) Styninger of Hanna City, Illinois.
Mike graduated from Canton High School and received his Masters Degree from Eastern Illinois University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1968. He retired from National Federation of Independent Business as a District Sales Manager. After retirement, he worked with his son at Styninger Funeral Homes and served as the Resident Manager of the Nashville location. He served as Chief Deputy Coroner of Washington County from 2008 to 2012. He was past President of the Coles County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and past President of the Washington County Sportsman’s Club. Mike was a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville, Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association and Nashville American Legion Post #110. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a gun, knife and wine enthusiast. Mike especially loved spending time at his hunting cabin in Pope County.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23rd at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. Jeffrey Schwab officiating. There will be a military flag presentation by the Nashville American Legion Post #110. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Cemetery near Mattoon. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington County Hospital or the St. Peter UCC Piano Fund.
