Mark Russell Thompson

Mark Russell Thompson, 70 of Centralia, passed away at 6:51 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at SSM St, Mary’s Hospital in Centralia surrounded by his family.  He was born on October 8, 1954 in Belleville, the son of Richard and Melba Smith Thompson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  He married Bobbie Macom on July 17, 1981 in Pontiac and she survives,

Besides his wife, left to mourn his passing are his children; Kevin (Maria) Thompson, Kristen Thompson and Kaitlyn (Brad) LeMasters.  Grandchildren; Lucia Thompson and fiancé Austin Shopinski and Aubri Thompson.  His sister Barbara (Bob) Pozniak and her children Erin and Adam.  Extended family includes sister-in-laws; Sheila (John), Shirley (Bob), Kay, Paulla and Missey.  Brother-in-laws; David and Scott (Stacy).  Friends Jeremy, Ashley, Alayna and Bryant along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark graduated from Nashville High School in 1972.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from SIU Carbondale and later earned his MBA from ISU in Normal.He recently retired from the Department of Defense where he was a Cost Analyst.  He said that was the best job he ever had.

In his retirement, Mark enjoyed many things including unlimited channel surfing when nobody was around.  He enjoyed time with his family and friends, especially the “lunch bunch” friends; Mike, Chuck, Rick, Mark and Dave.  He always looked forward to their visits.  Since he was young, he loved cars and always made sure everyone’s care was running the way it should.  Mark enjoyed mysteries of all kinds including paranormal, Big Foot, aliens and now he can ask Captain Kidd if he really buried that treasure on Oak Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. David Benning officiating.  A private burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Nashville.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Centralia Humane Society
