Margery Ruth Clark 91 of Mascoutah formerly of Nashville, passed away at 11:47 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. She was born on May 6, 1924 in Nashville, the daughter of Ferdinand J. And Sarah Agg Schleifer. She married Elvanus LeeRoy “Babe” Clark on September 28, 1945 and he passed away on November 13, 1977. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother; Ferdinand G. “Nandy” Schleifer, sister Rachael Ann Hoyer. Left tomourn her passing is a son; Gary (Special friend Karen Jany) Clark of Nashville. 3 daughters; Sandra (Robert) Detering of Mascoutah, Janet Clark of Nashville and Margaret Philpot of Castle Rock, CO. 7 grandchildren; Sean Clark of Ashley, Jason and Heather Clark of Austin TX, Jeff (Karen) Detering of Mascoutah, Kimberly (George Haldaman) of Mascoutah, Stacy Bright of Summerville, GA and Debbie (Mike) Flickner of Corydon, IN. 12 great grandchildren; Matthew, Alexis, Nathan and Abigail Detering of Mascoutah, Isabelle and Bradley Haldaman of Mascoutah, Damian Hilton of Nasvhille, Colin Ray Hilton and Bethany Bright of Summerville, GA., Deserae, Christian “Kody” and Lydia Haake of Corydon, IN. A brother; John H. Schleifer of Roachville, IN. 2 sisters; Sarah Jane Clark of Granite City and Mary Cernan of Centralia.
Ruth had many professions throughout her life. She was a beautician and worked in the local hospital. She started her working career in 1945, shortly after she married, working as a “Rosie the Riveter” putting aircraft wings together as what was then Curtis-Wright Aircraft Company in St. Louis. She had a beauty shop in her home for many years and took night classes as she worked her way up from a cook to an LPN to an Operating Room Technician. She retired from Washington County Hospital in 1994 at age 70. She then worked part time for Clark’s Automotive Repair Service until a fall forced her to retire in 2010 at 86 years of age. She was a founding and current member of Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville. Her greatest love was quilting. She began to quilt as a small child with her grandmother. She started to seriously quilt in 1976 and from that time on she made over 100 full size quilts for family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17th at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. John Prather officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church.
