Laura Gail Garlich of Plum Hill, departed this life at 5:31 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family.  She had obtained the age of 56 years, 3 months and 8 days.  She was born on November 6, 1967 in Pineville, KY, the daughter of Glenn and Margie Jones Smith.  She married Anthony Garlich on July 11, 1992 in Red Bird, KY and he survives.  Also surviving is a son Dakota (Katy) Garlich of Addieville, a daughter Ashley (Bryce) Kolweier of Okawville.  2 grandchildren; Ryker Garlich and Easton Kolweier.  4 sisters; Janie (Brock) Cox of Jefferson, GA., Rhonda (Danny) Green of Hayden, CO., Barbara (Martin) Green of Knoxville, TN. and Christy (Vince) Cupp of Pineville KY.  Aunts and uncles; Hargis Jones, Eddie Jones and Irene Ellis as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Lloyd Smith.

Laura went to Bell County, Kentucky High School and was in the first graduating class where she was valedictorian in 1985.  She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at Burea College and her Master’s Degree at Cumberland College.  After graduation, she taught computer processing classes at Red Bird Mission School where she met her husband.  To provide a better life for her kids, she moved with her family to her husband’s hometown in Illinois.  Laura was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville where she previously served as treasurer.  She was the office manager of healthcare division of the Washington County Vocational Workshop, office manager of Southern Illinois Missouri Sales in Addieville and most recently worked as the bookkeeper at J&R Appliance in Nashville.  She loved to read and play cards and especially loved her family.    

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville with Rev. Leanne Noland officiating.  Cremation will follow the service.  Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday both at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements
