John T. “Pepper” Pelczynski Sr., 82 of Ashley, passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon with his family at his side. He was born on April 22, 1943 in DuBois, the son of Thomas and Rebecca Hester Pelczynski. He married Jane Louise Bartholomy on August 22, 1964 in East St. Louis and she passed away on January 27, 2021. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter in law Traci Pelczynski, a great granddaughter Lily Holle and a brother in law Bill Reynolds.
Left to mourn his passing are 2 sons; John (Lisa) Pelczynski of Nashville and Terry Pelczynski of Ashley. A daughter Debra J. (Nathan) Holle of Hoyleton. A brother James (Sarah) Pelczynski of Oakdale. 2 sisters; Melba Reynolds and Betz (Mark) Nowakowski both of DuBois. 9 grandchildren; Nicole (Ben) Borrenpohl, Brittany (Sam) Fishburn, Roxzen (Brock) Styninger, Donovan (Kelley) Holle, Tommy (BreeAnna) Pelczynski, Devin (Easten) Holle, Janie (Doc) Schaeffer, Terry Pelczynski, Jr. and Tailer Pelczynski. 18 great grandchildren; Afton and T.J. Borrenpohl, Stryker, Staks and Shyer Fishburn, Brody, Brynlee, Bristol, Tommy IV, Tynslee and Jaelyn Pelczynski, Brixton and Brighton Styninger, Jayden Patton, Elsie and Lucy Holle, Sullivan and Sadie Jane Schaeffer.
Pepper worked at Ober-Nester Glass Co in Alton, IC Railroad in Centralia and retired from Continental Tire Co. in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Radom. He was a full time grandpa, loved to fish, socialize and was always the life of the party.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashley City Cemetery in Ashley. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashley City Cemetery.
