Hilda C. Gerstkemper 93 of Hoyleton passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Centralia Manor. She was born on September 26, 1919 in Hoyleton the daughter of August and Elise Grote Huge. She first married Alvin Schaeffer on August 10, 1940 in St. Louis and later married Harlan Gerstkemper on August 28, 1971 in Hoyleton and he passed away on April 3, 1985. Also preceding her in death were 2 sons; Charles and Donald Schaeffer, 3 brothers; Paul, Arthur and Raymond Huge and 2 son in laws; Frank Moses and Jim Castellari. Left to mourn her passing is 2 sons; Wayne (Nancy) Schaeffer of Hoyleton and Rodney (Kris) Schaeffer of Trenton. 3 daughters; Barbara Castellari of Centralia, Betty (Bob) Grotts of Pana and Brenda (Robert) Spencer of Nashville. 12 grandchildren; Chad (Julie) Schaeffer of Hoyleton, Angela (John) Knapp of Dix, Jeff (Marykay) Castellari of Hermantown, MN., Stacy (Jeff) Fischer of Centralia, Scott Moses of Centralia, Jason (Selsa) Castellari of Sacramento, CA., Richelle Weihe of St. Louis, MO., Zachary (Kassandra) Spencer of Mt. Juliet, TN., Matthew and Jessica Schaeffer both of Trenton, Sara (Michael) Vaughn of Hillsboro and Donna Barnhart of Portage, MI. 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. A sister in law; Dorothy Jones of Florida along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilda was a retired dietary aide at the Warren G. Murray Center in Centralia. After retiring, she sold Avon and cooked at the Hoyleton Grade School. She was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Hoyleton American Legion Auxillary and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 3rd at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Joshua Theilen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or it's Ladies Aid. Styninger Funeral Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
