Harry Charles “Charlie” Schaeffer, age 77, of Nashville, Illinois, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri, succumbing to injuries incurred on Sunday at his home as a result of a farm accident. Charlie was born on February 9, 1938, the son of Harry W. and LaVon (McClay) Schaeffer in Oakdale, Illinois. He married Linda Emrick on June 16, 1956 in Hoyleton, Illinois, and she survives him in Nashville, Illinois.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Charlie is survived by his children, Mike Schaeffer and wife Maryanne (Vollmer) of Nashville, Illinois; Doug Schaeffer and wife Gloria (Siliven) of Oakdale, Illinois; Tammy Argyle and husband Jorgen of Glendora, California; Tim Schaeffer and wife Mel (Rice) of Oakdale, Illinois; and Jamie Juenger and husband Scott of Oakdale, Illinois, 12 grandchildren, Travis Schaeffer and wife Tayler; Olivia Asselin and husband AJ, Spencer Hente and wife Molly; Elizabeth Schaeffer, Carly Argyle, Pavin Argyle, Billy Clark and wife Amanda, Tasha Clark, Wyatt Schaeffer, Doc Schaeffer, Jared Juenger and Schae Juenger, 2 great grandchildren, Jaxon Schaeffer and Hayden Clark, sisters, Eileen Rossi and husband Al of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, Mary Barton of St. Louis, Missouri, and Margie May of Nashville, Illinois, brother, Don Schaeffer and wife Pat of DeSoto, Missouri, sisters-in-law, Jan St. Louis of Ashley, Illinois and Shirley Selby and husband John of Richview, Illinois, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and LaVon Schaeffer, and 3 brothers, Wilbur Schaeffer (Nashville), Marvin Schaeffer (Nashville) and Darrel Schaeffer (Tuscon, Arizona).

Charlie graduated from Nashville High School in 1955.  He was employed by the Soil Conversation Service in Salem, Illinois from 1958 to 1969. In 1969, he and Linda moved from Salem to Nashville and he took a job as a livestock feed salesman with the Moorman Manufacturing Company, which was later bought out by ADM. He continued to sell feed from 1969 to the present. Charlie also was a Wyffels seed corn salesman and a Stine soy bean seed salesman. He was very dedicated to all of his many feed and seed customers and truly enjoyed every minute of his 46 years in the sales business.

Charlie enjoyed his work and working around the farm, especially working with the livestock. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bird hunting with his friends. He was very involved in the Little Egypt Pork Producers in the late 1970’s and 80’s.

Charlie loved to tease and play with his grandchildren, and truly enjoyed spending time with his family. He liked listening to country music and watching Cardinal baseball games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville, Illinois with Pastor Bill Bunnage officiating.  Cremation rites will follow the funeral service.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 23, 2015, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville, Illinois and from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the church.  Memorials contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Nashville, American Cancer Society, or Washington County 4-H Animal Science and will be received at the Styninger Funeral Homes in Nashville, Illinois.
