Ferris L (Creed) Kasten

Ferris L. Kasten, 95 of Hoyleton, passed away at 9:02 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle.  She was born on July 11, 1927 in Centralia, the daughter of Emmett and Gladys Fischer Creed.  She married Wilfred H. Kasten on September 19, 1948 in Centralia.  Besides her husband of nearly 74 years, she is survived by a son Steve (Marge) Kasten of Hoyleton, a daughter Jan (Dennis) Boldt of Valley Park, MO and a son-in-law Terry Lake.  7 grandchildren; Dan Lake, Deanne (Ryan) Renken, Katie (Tad) Robinson, Matt (Carrie) Kasten, Ben (Francee) Kasten, Ryan (Karen) Boldt, Adam (Lindsey Morin) Boldt and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Barbara Lynn Lake, 2 brothers; Orville and Lyman Creed and 3 sisters; Evelyn McTall, Vera Baldridge and Eula Treffert.

Prior to her marriage, Ferris taught school.  She was a devoted farm wife and accomplished golfer having won the Southern Illinois Amateur Ladies Championship twice and was instrumental in establishing several ladies golf leagues in the area.  She was on the committee which started the very first Hofbraufest in Hoyleton.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton and enjoyed bowling and sewing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church and from 9:30 until service time on Friday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton or Christ Our Rock Lutheran High School.  Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
