Esther Marie Schaeffer, 98 formerly of Hoyleton, passed away at 12:38 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Odin Healthcare Center in Odin. She was born on April 11, 1923 in Hoyleton, the daughter of Edward and Emma Grote Huge. She married Edwin W. Schaeffer on February 2, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton and he passed away on May 29, 1994. Also preceding her in death were her parents, 5 brothers; Elmer, Alfred, Edward, Jr., Richard and Gilbert Huge. 3 sisters; Alma Kasten, Corrine Rennegarbe and Ella Wehking. Left to mourn her passing are 3 sons; James (Brenda) Schaeffer of Centralia, Roger L. (Jill) Schaeffer of Mary Esther, FL and David Allen Schaeffer of Irvington. 6 grandchildren; Todd (Misty) Schaeffer of Irvington, Jason (LeAnn) Schaeffer of Centralia, Jonathen (Alicia) Schaeffer of Leeds, AL, Christopher Schaeffer of Pace, FL, Jacob (Robyn) Schaeffer of Troy and Courtney (John) Koleasar of Gillespie. 7 great grandchildren and a sister Betty Weihe of Hoyleton.
Esther was the oldest living member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton. She worked for many years as a CNA at Country View Nursing Home in Irvington and cared for numerous friends and neighbors. She volunteered at the Hoyleton Children’s Home and enjoyed canning, sewing, quilting, baking and her biggest joy was helping to raise her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton. Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
