Dennis M Thorson

Retired Com Sgt Major Dennis M Thorson, 81, of Martinez GA, passed away peacefully at his home after hospice care on February 17, 2024. Dennis was born in St. Cloud Minnesota. He was born on August 18, 1942  the son of Arthur and Margaret Thorson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joan Thorson and 2 brothers Gerald and Robert Thorson.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge in Grovetown GA. He held many ranks from Secretary to Worshipful Master.  During his time with the Mason’s Dennis helped establish the CHIP program for school children along with the Sheriff Dept. Also, many other programs that still exist to this day were brought to fruition under his leadership at the lodge. Dennis enjoying hunting and fishing with family and friends in the Martinez/Grovetown area as well as the many trips to Illinois, Minnesota and many other locations where many a beer or two, and stories, were told. Enlisting in the Army at an early age, Dennis was in the Signal Corp where he spent time in Vietnam. Earning many recognitions such as National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Armed Forces Honors Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Medal. Dennis retired in 1988 and enjoyed his retirement.

He is survived by sons: Christopher Thorson(Riverview, Fl), Scott Thorson(Augusta, GA)  Sisters: Jean Thorson (St Cloud, Minnesota), JoAnn Feld( Sauk Rapids, Minnesota)

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Hoyleton Community Club Building.  Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of local arrangements
