Charlene A. “Charlie” Erlinger, 71 of Nashville, passed away at 7:48 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at her residence with her family at her side. She was born on September 30, 1953 in Breese, the daughter of Cyril and Edna Kapp Schwierjohn. She married David L. Erlinger on August 16, 1975 in Carlyle. Besides her husband of 49 years, left to mourn her passing are 2 daughters; Jennifer (Kent) Schuette of New Minden and Jill (Jeremy) Stein of Nashville. 5 grandchildren; Madison and Jordan Schuette, Brady, Grace and Karlie Stein. 3 brothers; Roger (Rosie) Schwierjohn of Glendale, AZ, Ed (Sue) Schwierjohn of Carlyle and Don (Alice) Schwierjohn of Breese. 5 sisters; Marilyn Buchheit of Carlyle, Geralyn (Ron) Huels of Carlyle, Geri Ann (Jim) Masching of Breese, Joyce (David) Meyer of Carlyle and Sharon (Murray) Fauke of Carlyle. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother in law Bob Buchheit, 2 great nephews; Fulton Schwierjohn and Brenden Sellers.
Charlene was a graduate of Mater Dei Catholic High School in Breese and retired from the Washington County Rural Water Company where she was a secretary. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Nashville. She enjoyed bowling, playing golf, traveling and attending her grandchildren’s activities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Nashville with Fr. Benny George officiating. Burial will follow in the Old St. Ann’s Church cemetery. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Cancer Society. Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
