Esther C. Sprehe, 86 of New Minden, passed away at 9:46 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2018 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born on March 18, 1932 in Ferrin, the daughter of Fred and Amanda Reinkensmeier Fruend. She married Reinholdt H. Sprehe on November 22, 1953 in Ferrin and he passed away on October 25, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a brother; Ernest Fruend and a grandson; Joseph Eigenrauch. Left to mourn her passing is a son; Dean (Nancy) Sprehe of New Minden, 2 daughters; Kathy (Terry) Dinkelman and Nancy Eigenrauch both of Nashville. Special family friends; Dennis and Shirley Haake of Frankfort. 3 brothers; Vernon (Carolyn) Fruend of Ferrin, Robert Fruend of Carlyle and Eugene (Carol) Fruend of Nashville. 6 grandchildren; Tyler (Courtney) Sprehe, Jill (Jonas) Stein, Darren (Jen) Dinkelman, Ryan (Stacey) Dinkelman, Justin (Lindsay) Eigenrauch and Allison (Ken) Breiner. 8 great grandchildren; Reagan, Nora and Jackson Dinkelman, Beckett Stein, Meredith Sprehe, Maisey Eigenrauch, Hanley Presswood and Blaine Breiner.
Mrs. Sprehe was farm wife and worked as a meat wrapper at the Nashville Meat Locker and was a self employed wallpaper hanger. She was a long time member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden where she was a charter member of the ladies aid, member of LWML and along with her husband served as church custodians for many years. She made numerous T shirt quilts for people and enjoyed playing pinochle, her African violets and gardening.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and again from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Historical Society or the Washington County Relay For Life.
