Virgil E. Hoelscher, 92 of Nashville, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Washington County Hospital in Nashville. He was born on September 8, 1923 in Oakdale Township, the son of George and Anna Eigenrauch Hoelscher. He married Ruby A. Oexeman on April 25, 1944 in Mobile, AL and she passed away on November 15, 2013. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a sister; Gladys Randoll and 2 brothers; Oliver and Homer Hoelscher. Left to mourn his passing is a son; Mark (Leslie) Hoelscher of Kansas City, MO. A daughter; Sharon (Gene) Frederking of Addieville. A sister; Helen (Eugene) Meentemeyer of Kingwood, TX. 5 grandchildren; Mike (Jill) Frederking, Nathan (Robyn) Frederking, Christine (Kevin) Haynes, Haley (Aaron) Rubenking and Aaron Hoelscher. 7 great grandchildren; Haylee Althoff, Marlee Frederking, Alyssa Frederking, Malia Frederking, Claire Haynes, Carson Haynes and Harrison Rubenking.
Virgil was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp serving as a B-17 tail gunner in WWII. He was the former owner of Eigenrauch’s Tom Boy grocery store in Nashville and later served as the Superintendent of the Nashville Golf Course. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville where he served on the finance committee. He was a 70 year member of the Nashville American Legion Post #110, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Nashville Lions Club and was the past President of the Southern Illinois Golf Course Superintendents Association.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville with Rev. Sean Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post #110. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and again from 7:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville and from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Washington County Hospital Extended Care Unit. Online expressions of sympathy may be made at
