Miriam C. Backs 87 of Nashville, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Monday, December 07, 2015 at Friendship Manor Health Center in Nashville. She was born on November 30, 1928 in Nashville, the only child of Gustav H. And Clara Heseman Backs. She was baptized on December 11, 1928 and confirmed in April of 1941 both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville where she was a lifelong member. She graduated from Nashville High School and then in 1950 received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Illinois. After graduating from the U of I, she was employed by US Gypsum in Chicago from 1950 -1978. In 1978, she transferred to their Pinckneyville office. She resigned in 1988 and then worked part time in Nashville until her retirement.
Miss Backs remained single and throughout her career years remained very active in her church and civic activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, may relatives and friends. She is survived by 10 cousins and their families.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 11th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville with Rev. Aaron Kotila officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested and may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity-St. John Lutheran School or a charity of the donor’s choice.
