Lorraine Marie Schmale, 84 of Nashville formerly of Okawville, passed away at 3:34 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born on September 26, 1931 in St. Louis, the daughter of Jerome and Irene Dennis Loyet. She married Allen L. Schmale on July 19, 1952 in St. Louis County. She is survived by her husband of 64 years along with 2 sons; Arnold (Cynthia) Schmale of St. Libory and Allen K. (Lisa) Schmale of Columbia. 3 daughters; Judy (Lloyd) Johnson of Houston, TX, Michelle (Kevin) Heckert of Venedy and Rene Kuzemka of St. Charles, IL. 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson; Lucas Heckert, a son in law; Mark Kuzemka, a brother; Bill Loyet and 3 sisters; Gertrude McInroy, Joan Brussel and Jeanette Soares.
In her early years, Lorraine was a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Mary’s and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital both in St. Louis. She had a deep faith and was affiliated with St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Nashville. She loved oil painting portraits and decorating for Christmas and spending time with her family. Lorraine was a very generous person and often invited people without a family to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinner with her family and believed in helping feed those children who were hungry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville with Father Andy Knopik officiating. A private burial will take place in St. Peter UCC cemetery in Okawville. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville. There will be a Catholic prayer service at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
