Gary L. Hongsermeier, 55 of Irvington, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his residence.  He was born on August 23, 1960 in Centralia, the son of Harry and Bernice Westermeyer Hongsermeier.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Left to mourn his passing are 3 sisters; Nancy Fechtler of Irvington, Patty (Terry) Mount of Kell and Judy Hongsermeier of Hoyleton.  2 nephews; Adam Fechtler of Irvington and Jeremy Mount and special friend Lauren Edwards of Marlo.  A niece; Becky (Tim) Arndt of Front Royal, VA and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Gary farmed in the Hoyleton area for many years.  He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Hoyleton where he served on the church council and cemetery committee.  He was a member of the Irvington Ruritan Club, Irvington Village Board and served on the Washington County Soil and Water Board.  He was a long time Jaycee and served as President of the Illinois Jaycee Senate.  Gary was active in the Washington County Republican Party and enjoyed participating in competition barbecue events.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Zion United Church of Christ in Hoyleton with Rev. Howard Self officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ or the Irvington Ruritan Club.  Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements
