Eugene J. Dries, 90 of Litchfield, formerly of Hoyleton, passed away at 7:38 a.m. on Monday, August 08, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on March 25, 1926 in Hoyleton, the son of Gus and Emma Nolte Dries.  He married Connie C. Maschhoff on September 4, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Connie Dries.  A daughter; Kathy A. and husband Dr. Chris Poirot of Litchfield.  2 grandchildren; Kelly and husband Eric McClintock and Christopher Poirot and fiance’ Amanda McKenzie all of Chicago. A brother; Allen Dries of Asheville, NC and a sister; Marlene and husband Norman Kahre of Hoyleton and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters; Verena Sprehe, Nettie Reinkensmeyer and Marilyn Spenner.

Mr. Dries was a graduate of Nashville High School and served with the United States Navy during WWII in the Aleutian Islands.  He was the manager for Karchmer Pipe and Supply Company and later Fairco Supply Company both in Centralia.  He was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where he served as treasurer and belonged to the Men’s Club.  He was a member of the Hoyleton Lions club where he held numerous offices.  He was also a member of the Hoyleton American Legion Post.  Gene was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 11th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Joshua Theilen officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Nashville American Legion Post #110.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield or the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.  Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
