Donald E. Schnitker, 76 of Hoyleton, passed away at 3:37 p.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family and Pastor. He was born on the family farm in Hoyleton on January 4, 1941, the son of Edmund and Thekla Storck Schnitker. He married Margaret Ann Reckling on June 15, 1963 in Centralia and she survives in Hoyleton. Also left to mourn his passing are 2 sons; Timothy (Cassie) Schnitker of Hoyleton and Andy (Sara) Schnitker of Nashville. 2 daughters; Sue (Kenny) Malick of Nashville and Amy (Greg) Zalos of Hoyleton. 2 brothers; Rollan (Gerri) Schnitker of Hoyleton and Richard (Betty) Schnitker of Augusta, KS. 17 grandchildren; Caitlin (Kurt) Thole, Jade (Nate) Green, Sammi Jo, Alyssa and Matthew Schnitker, Eric (Kasi), Nick and Christopher Malick, Chance Schnitker, Juleah, Karlie and Seth Markham, Alexus and Tyler Newcomb, AllieJade, Annie and Acelynn Zalos. 5 great grandchildren; Aydia, Rueger and Adley Green, Emma Malick and Kinsley Thole. A niece and several nephews and his faithful companions; Sparky and Ruby. Mr. Schnitker was preceded in death by his parents and a son Samuel Schnitker.
Don served in the Army Reserves and was a lifelong grain and dairy farmer in Hoyleton. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where he was active in the men’s choir and men’s club. He was a former member of the Hoyleton Lions club and previously served on the Hoyleton school board.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating. A private burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and again one hour prior to services on Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran School or SSM Hospice. Styninger Funeral & Cremation Chapel in Hoyleton is in charge of arrangements.
